Candidate Location:  This position is primarily remote, but depending on demand, it could entail up to 50% onsite work in and around San Diego, CA.  Please do not apply if you are not in the San Diego area.  

Job Description:  This is a full-time position for an IT engineer at the level of a system administrator within the Network Operations Center for an MSP.  This position requires knowledge and hands-on experience with specific systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Job responsibilities include performing systems and device configuration, management, upgrades, project planning, negotiation, and execution. You will work in a team setting with tasks, projects, and clients assigned by a manager. Day-to-day activities involve performing technical tasks such as system configurations, migrations, troubleshooting, project planning, and more. If you are hired, you will receive training on our internal processes, systems, and methodology at the help desk level. After completing training, you will be moved into the Network Operations Department or Field Services.  

Job functions and responsibilities:

  • Perform migrations, upgrades, deployments, and the configuration of various systems
  • Troubleshooting of network devices, systems, services, and software
  • Participate in project planning and execution
  • Ability to take direction, work independently and complete assigned tasks
  • Manage assigned clients (prepare for and lead meetings, negotiate projects, review technology, and make recommendations)
  • Monitor and respond to alerts, incidents, and requests for assistance
  • Create or update documentation and work within our help ticket system
  • Conduct site surveys for deployment of services, infrastructure, etc. 

Position compensation and benefits:

  • Compensation: $6500 - $8000 per month starting salary depending on accessed skills at time of hire.

IT EXPERIENCE DESIRED: 

Experience installing, configuring, and managing: 

  • All aspects of Microsoft 365 configuration and management, including Azure AD, Intune, Exchange Online, Sharepoint, Defender
  • Installation and management of Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, Active Directory, RDS
  • Virtualization deployment and management: VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, HyperV
  • User management in MS Active Directory / Azure Active Directory (creating, disabling, removing, resetting, configuring user accounts), managing user groups/OUs/permissions
  • User and permission administration and management in a domain (AD, GPO, groups OUs, password, login items, etc)
  • Knowledge and experience working with various cloud platforms and tools: Dropbox, Box.net, Adobe, Slack, Google Apps, etc
  • Knowledge of Single Sign-On and Multi-Factor Authentication solutions such as Okta, Duo, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, Google Authenticator, etc 
  • Management and troubleshooting of servers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and storage from major manufacturers.
  • Networking basics: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, SSH, IPSEC, L2TP, Firewall ACLs, VLANs (Cisco, Meraki, SonicWall, Palo Alto, Fortinet)
  • Disaster recovery and business continuity: on-prem and cloud backup, replication, failover (Veeam or Nakivo preferred)
  • Cloud antivirus deployment, configuration, and management (BitDefender GravityZone preferred)
  • Basics of project and task management

Additionally desired but not required:

  • Linux administration and configuration management
  • Scripting: Bash, PowerShell, Python
  • HIPPA, SOX, FINRS, SEC, FDA compliance knowledge
